DHAKA: The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) has forecast temporary gusty or stormy winds in eight regions of the country and issued caution signal No. 1 for the inland river ports in those areas, according to a weather bulletin was issued on Sunday (September 20) morning.
The signed by meteorologist Md Tariful Newaz Kabir said temporary gusty or stormy winds of 45–60 kilometres per hour may sweep over Rajshahi, Pabna, Bogura, Dhaka, Tangail, Khulna, Jashore and Kushtia.
The BMD said strong winds from the east or southeast may be accompanied by temporary rain or thunderstorms in the areas. In view of the adverse weather, the river ports in the affected regions have been advised to display caution signal No. 1.
Meanwhile, a new low-pressure system has formed over the Bay of Bengal and adjoining North Andaman Sea and may gradually intensify, meteorologists said.
The axis of the monsoon trough extends from Rajasthan through Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal and central Bangladesh to Assam, with one of its extensions reaching the northern Bay of Bengal.
Alongside the forecast for gusty winds and rainfall, mild heatwave conditions are still prevailing in several parts of the country. The heatwave is affecting Gopalganj, Narayanganj, Bogura, Netrakona, Cumilla, Feni, Chandpur, Chattogram, Lakshmipur, Khulna, Satkhira and Barishal.
Netrakona and Ramgati in Lakshmipur recorded the country’s highest temperature of 37°C in the past 24 hours, while Dhaka recorded a maximum temperature of 35.5°C.
The BMD said rainfall activity across the country may increase over the next five days. From the evening of Monday (September 21) through the following 24 hours, light to moderate rain may occur in different divisions across the country.
