A blast at a natural gas facility in Egypt has added a new dimension to the escalating tensions in the Middle East after a drone carrying explosives struck a US-owned storage tanker at a port, causing a major fire.
The explosion occurred on Wednesday at a gas-loading port in Egypt, according to maritime trade sources. The attack set the tanker ablaze, and the fire later spread to a nearby vessel, reports said.
Three maritime security sources confirmed the incident, while British maritime security firm Ambrey said the ship’s crew members were evacuated and the fire was brought under control.
No group has so far claimed responsibility for the attack.
The incident comes as regional tensions continue to rise amid the ongoing conflict in the Middle East, raising concerns over the safety of critical energy and maritime infrastructure.
Meanwhile, Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar held a phone conversation with Egypt’s Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty, calling for restraint, dialogue, and diplomatic efforts to ease tensions.
Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry confirmed the discussion in a post on social media platform X, saying both ministers expressed deep concern over the situation in Palestine.
They strongly condemned Israeli military actions in Gaza, violence by settlers in the occupied West Bank, and tensions surrounding the Al-Aqsa Mosque. The two ministers also called for an immediate end to the hostage crisis in Gaza and urged all sides to respect international law.
The latest developments highlight growing fears that the broader regional conflict could further expand, affecting security, trade routes, and energy supplies.
