Student protests in Ranchi, Jharkhand, over question paper leaks have entered a crucial phase, with demonstrators set to march towards the state Assembly on Monday, the 17th day of their agitation.
Students from different districts of Jharkhand have begun gathering at a field around two kilometres from the Assembly ahead of the planned march.
A large number of students arrived in the state capital by trains, buses and other vehicles on Monday morning.
The students are demanding reforms in the recruitment examination system and action over alleged question paper leaks.
“The government should listen to us and give us answers,” an agitating student was quoted as saying by NDTV.
Authorities have stepped up security in Ranchi amid concerns that the protest could affect law and order in the city.
Barricades have been erected at key intersections and sensitive areas, while a large number of police personnel have been deployed to prevent any untoward incident.
Most schools in Ranchi remained closed on Monday as a precautionary measure.
Police are also restricting the entry of students into the capital by conducting checks on buses and private vehicles at district borders, major roads and highways.
