The United States has announced an emergency aid package worth $15.5 million for Colombia following a powerful earthquake that killed more than 100 people.

The US State Department said Monday that the assistance would support emergency response and relief efforts after the devastating quake.

“We are united in prayer with the Colombian people and stand ready to support President Abelardo de la Espriella,” the State Department said in a post on X.

The announcement came just three days after de la Espriella, who has received backing from Washington, took office as Colombia’s president.

The aid package underscores Washington’s support for Colombia as the country responds to the disaster and assists communities affected by the earthquake.
