Iran says alleged US violations have rendered the deadline under a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Washington “entirely moot,” as efforts to end the conflict remain deadlocked.
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei said on Monday that the United States had committed “gross” violations of the agreement, while stressing that Iranian forces remained prepared to respond.
The Iran-US MoU, signed in June, expired on Monday amid stalled negotiations aimed at ending the war and easing tensions between the two countries.
Meanwhile, Brigadier General Yadollah Javani, a senior commander of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), said Tehran’s defensive posture could shift to an offensive one under a new policy of “maximum deterrence.”
US President Donald Trump also renewed his demand that Iran never acquire nuclear weapons “in any way.” He had earlier ordered the Pentagon to scale back annual military drills with South Korea, saying Seoul had declined to join efforts aimed at the “denuclearisation” of Iran.
Separately, Hamas called on the Board of Peace to pressure Israel to accept a proposed Gaza peace plan. The appeal came after a Hamas delegation led by political chief Khalil al-Hayya met with Jared Kushner, Trump’s son-in-law, in Alamein, Egypt.
