Iran has warned neighbouring countries against joining the United States’ economic pressure campaign, saying states that enforce US sanctions against Tehran will be treated as enemies and could face retaliation.
Iran’s security chief Mohsen Rezaei issued the warning as tensions continue to rise between Tehran and Washington. He said Iran would target the interests of countries that participate in the US-led economic campaign.
President Masoud Pezeshkian said Iran was facing a “full-scale economic, military and security war”, while accusing the United States of wrongly predicting that Iran would follow the path of Venezuela.
Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump has reposted a map on his Truth Social account marking the Strait of Hormuz as “NEW US Territory”. A day earlier, Trump told a rally that he considered the strategic waterway “American territory”.
Tensions have also spilled into neighbouring Syria. An Israeli drone strike on a truck in Beit Jinn, in southwestern Syria, injured several civilians, according to Syria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates.
