Pakistan’s Chief of Defence Forces and Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir on Saturday visited Quetta Garrison and reaffirmed that the peace, prosperity and well-being of the people of Balochistan remained a priority for the state.

The visit came amid a recent rise in terrorist activity in the province, including attacks in Pishin and Chagai and counter-terrorism operations in Mastung, Kalat and Sibi.

According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), Munir was received by the Quetta Corps Commander and briefed on the security situation, operational preparedness and measures to maintain peace and stability across the province.

Munir stressed that a stable and secure environment was essential for development initiatives, economic opportunities and improved prospects for the people of Balochistan. He also emphasised greater coordination among law enforcement agencies and other state institutions.

The army chief praised the troops for their professionalism, operational readiness and commitment, and paid tribute to the sacrifices of security personnel killed in the line of duty.

The visit followed a series of military operations in which the ISPR said 48 terrorists were killed across Balochistan over 72 hours. The operations were conducted in Mastung, Quetta, Kalat and Sibi.

The province has faced a worsening security situation in recent months. According to the Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies, terrorist attacks in Balochistan increased from 83 in July to 89 in August, a 7 percent rise.
