LAHORE: Police have arrested Aleema Khan, sister of jailed former Pakistani prime minister Imran Khan, at her residence in Lahore, according to a spokesperson for the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party’s Punjab chapter.
The arrest comes ahead of a planned PTI protest march on September 27, with the party demanding the release of its founder Imran Khan.
Reuters reported that a spokesperson for the Pakistani government and police did not respond to requests for comment on Aleema Khan’s arrest.
Imran Khan, a former captain of Pakistan’s World Cup-winning cricket team, has been in prison since his arrest in 2023 amid continuing political tensions in the country.
He was arrested by paramilitary Rangers in connection with a warrant issued by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB).
The PTI has been preparing for its September 27 protest march amid continued demands for Imran Khan’s release.
