Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said Tehran no longer trusts the United States in negotiations, citing attacks and sanctions that followed previous rounds of talks.

In an interview with Qatar-based Al Jazeera on Saturday, Pezeshkian said Iran did not know on what basis it could reach an agreement with Washington.

“We have no trust in the Americans,” he said. “We do not know on what basis we could reach an agreement with them.”

Pezeshkian said Tehran was waiting for a response to its latest proposal to the United States aimed at ending the war.

US President Donald Trump, however, said on Saturday that he had rejected Iran’s proposal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz and end the conflict in the Middle East.

Trump made the remarks while speaking to reporters at the White House.
