Yemen’s Houthi rebels have claimed responsibility for drone and missile attacks targeting two international airports and four military sites in Saudi Arabia.

Houthi military spokesperson Brig Gen Yahya Saree said in a post on X on Wednesday that the group launched several drones at King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh early in the morning.

He claimed the attack was “precise and coordinated” and disrupted flight operations at the airport.

Saree also claimed that Houthi forces launched several drones and missiles at Abha International Airport and the Khamis Mushait military base, as well as the Daghari and Al-Mawsim military sites in Jizan province and the Anqifah military site in Asir province.

According to the Houthi spokesperson, the attacks disrupted flight operations at Abha airport and caused significant damage to the targeted military sites.

Saudi Arabia’s state-led coalition did not comment directly on the Houthi claims. However, coalition spokesperson Brig Gen Turki al-Malki said in a separate statement on Wednesday that the coalition intercepted and destroyed a ballistic missile launched by the Houthis towards Riyadh.

“The ballistic missile launched by the terrorist Houthi militia was intercepted north of Riyadh,” al-Malki said in a post on X.

He added that coalition intelligence had identified the missile and drone launch site in Yemen’s capital, Sanaa.

“We are monitoring the launch site through coalition intelligence, and we will destroy it,” he said.
