More than 1,400 Palestinians have been killed in Israeli attacks in Gaza since a ceasefire agreement came into effect, Amnesty International has said. The international human rights organisation also warned that the territory’s housing, healthcare and food crises are deepening. The Al Jazeera reported the statement.

In a post on X, Amnesty said around two million people in Gaza still needed shelter. No hospital in the territory was fully operational, while around 1.4 million people were facing severe food insecurity.

The organisation also stressed that calls for justice for people buried beneath the rubble must not be forgotten.

“Calls for justice and accountability cannot be buried under the rubble,” Amnesty said.

Amnesty International accused the international community of failing to put sufficient pressure on Israel to ensure accountability and compliance with binding orders issued by the International Court of Justice (ICJ).

According to the organisation, the failure to ensure accountability for actions committed in Gaza increases the risk of further atrocities against Palestinians.

The prolonged conflict has severely damaged Gaza’s housing and healthcare systems, leaving large numbers of people homeless. Meanwhile, food shortages have made daily life increasingly difficult for millions of residents.

Amnesty said Gaza’s reconstruction and recovery should be guided by international law, justice and the protection of the rights of those affected.

Rebuilding infrastructure alone would not be enough, the organisation said, stressing the need to uphold victims’ rights and ensure accountability for those responsible.
