11 killed amid Gaza strikes persist

Israeli strikes across Gaza on Saturday killed at least 11 people, including several children, according to local health officials, underscoring the fragility of a ceasefire that has failed to halt violence in the besieged territory.

Gaza’s civil defence agency reported that five members of the same family — three children and their parents — were killed when an airstrike hit a residential apartment in northwest Gaza City.

The family’s only surviving member, a child who was not at home at the time, escaped unharmed. The deaths were confirmed by Al-Shifa Hospital.

The Israeli military said it had carried out a strike in Gaza City targeting a Hamas militant and was reviewing the outcome.

Residents described scenes of devastation and panic. Witnesses said the strike came without warning, tearing through the building and leaving bodies scattered amid the rubble.

Rescue teams rushed to the scene as survivors searched through debris for belongings and missing relatives.

In a separate incident, three more people were killed in an airstrike targeting a group of civilians in Gaza City’s Zeitoun neighbourhood, with the casualties also confirmed by Al-Shifa Hospital.

Hours later, a woman was killed when artillery shelling struck a tent sheltering displaced families east of Zeitoun. Al-Ahli Hospital said it received her body along with several injured, including her daughter.

Authorities reported additional injury and at least three people still missing.

Two more fatalities were recorded in other attacks across Gaza, though details were not immediately available.

Despite a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas that took effect last October, violence has continued intermittently.

Gaza’s health ministry says more than 1,100 Palestinians have been killed since the truce began, while the Israeli military reports six deaths on its side, including a civilian contractor.

Independent verification of casualty figures remains difficult due to restricted access to Gaza and limitations on media coverage.
