Indirect negotiations between the United States and Iran held in Doha have yielded “positive progress,” with both sides agreeing to continue discussions after the funeral proceedings of the late Iranian Supreme Leader, Qatar’s foreign ministry spokesman said.
In a statement posted on X on Wednesday, Qatar’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson Majed Al Ansari said that mediators from Qatar and Pakistan had conducted separate meetings with US and Iranian negotiators in the Qatari capital.
“Qatari and Pakistani mediators concluded separate meetings with the US and Iranian negotiators in Doha today, with positive progress made on issues related to the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding, building on the outcomes of the Lake Lucerne Summit,” Al Ansari said.
He added that the parties had agreed to maintain diplomatic engagement and continue negotiations in the coming period.
“The next round of talks will be scheduled at the earliest possible opportunity following the funeral proceedings of the former Iranian Supreme Leader,” the spokesman said.
The latest round of discussions reflects ongoing efforts by regional mediators to facilitate dialogue between Washington and Tehran and to build on recent diplomatic initiatives aimed at reducing tensions and advancing mutual understandings.
