Chuadanga: Eight Bangladeshi women were detained by the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) while allegedly attempting to cross the border illegally into India through the Nabadurgapur area of Jibannagar Upazila in Chuadanga district.
According to the Maheshpur-58 BGB Battalion, the women were detained at approximately 6:10 a.m. on Friday.
In a press release issued at around 7:15 p.m. on Friday, Assistant Director of Maheshpur-58 BGB Battalion, Munshi Imdadur Rahman, said that a special patrol team led by Subedar Firoz detained the eight women from beside a paddy field owned by Ismail Hossain in Nabadurgapur village. The location is about 500 yards inside Bangladesh from Border Pillar 62/5-S, within the operational area of the Benipur Border Outpost (BOP) under Jibannagar Upazila.
The statement said the detainees were attempting to enter India illegally from Bangladesh.
Subedar Firoz later filed a case against the detainees with Jibannagar Police Station. They were subsequently handed over to the police for further legal proceedings, according to Munshi Imdadur Rahman.
