Two killed by train in Gopalganj

Two young men were killed after being run over by a Dhaka-Khulna-bound Ruposhi Bangla train in Kashiani upazila of Gopalganj late Tuesday night.

Police recovered the bodies early Wednesday from beside the railway tracks near Badsha Khan’s house, close to Maheshpur Railway Station.

The deceased were identified as Md Mehedi Sheikh, 25, son of Babul Sheikh of Noapara village, and Hashib Gazi, 20, son of Shah Alam Gazi of Baukhola village. Both were residents of Maheshpur Union in Kashiani.

Kashiani Police Station Officer-in-Charge Muhammad Mahfuzur Rahman confirmed the incident.

He said the two are believed to have been struck by the Dhaka-Khulna-bound Ruposhi Bangla train sometime after 10pm on Tuesday.

Local residents spotted the bodies lying on the railway tracks while walking in the area early Wednesday and informed police.

Police recovered the bodies and prepared inquest reports at the scene.

The incident was reported to the Rajbari Railway Police, which is expected to complete the legal procedures before handing over the bodies to the families.
