Strong winds of up to 60 kilometres per hour may sweep across five regions of Bangladesh, accompanied by rain and thunderstorms, the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) said on Thursday (August 13).
The BMD has asked river ports in the affected areas to display a No. 1 warning signal.
According to the forecast issued for inland river ports from 5am to 1pm Thursday, temporary gusty or squally winds from the south or southeast, with speeds of 45-60 km/h, may affect Barishal, Patuakhali, Noakhali, Cumilla and Chattogram. Rain or thunderstorms are also likely in these areas.
The weather office forecast that from Thursday to 6pm Saturday (August 13-15), many places in Khulna, Barishal and Chattogram divisions and some areas of Rangpur, Rajshahi, Dhaka, Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions may experience light to moderate rain or thunderstorms accompanied by temporary gusty winds.
Moderate to heavy, and in places very heavy, rainfall may also occur in some parts of the country during the period.
Day and night temperatures may fall slightly across the country on Thursday. Night-time temperatures could drop by 1-2°C on Friday, while temperatures may decline slightly again across the country on Saturday.
