Presidential candidate of the ruling Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and former secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir today said Begum Khaleda Zia repeatedly restored democracy in Bangladesh through her leadership and struggles.

“The sacrifice and inspiration of Begum Khaleda Zia always show us the way,” he said.

Fakhrul made the remarks while speaking at a milad and doa mahfil at the BNP’s Nayapaltan central office in Dhaka, marking the 82nd birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia, who is widely known as the ‘Mother of Democracy’.

“Today is a happy day for us. On this day, our leader was born. She became deeply involved in the fate of Bangladesh and repeatedly brought democracy back to the country through her leadership and struggles,” Fakhrul said.

He said Khaleda Zia had also taken part in struggles to build a prosperous Bangladesh.

“The sacrifice and inspiration of the uncompromising leader Begum Khaleda Zia, who through a long struggle established the BNP as a democratic party, always inspire us to follow that path,” he said.

Fakhrul expressed his determination to transform the BNP into a modern democratic party capable of leading the country.

“On this day, we will all take an oath that we will truly build the BNP as a modern democratic party that will be able to lead Bangladesh,” he said.

Recalling the BNP’s return to government, Fakhrul said people expected the government to implement Khaleda Zia’s policies, including her Vision 2030 and the party’s 31-point reform agenda.
