Emraan Hashmi and Disha Patani-starrer Awarapan 2 has made a strong start at the Indian box office, exceeding pre-release expectations with an estimated opening-day collection of Rs 19 crore to Rs 21 crore.

Directed by Nitin Kakkar, the film is set for its biggest gains over the Independence Day weekend, with business expected to rise sharply on Saturday before consolidating on Sunday.

The film is projected to collect around Rs 80 crore during its opening weekend, putting it on course to cross the Rs 100 crore mark within its first week.

Awarapan 2 could then target the Rs 150 crore milestone if its strong momentum continues in the following days.

The film has also performed well in India’s leading national cinema chains, collecting around Rs 10 crore net from the top three chains, accounting for roughly half of its overall business.

The opening marks the biggest first-day performance of Emraan Hashmi’s career and could potentially become the actor’s highest-grossing film if the momentum holds.

The film faced competition from Batwara, but that release has struggled to gain significant traction. However, a dispute over show allocations between PVR INOX and Pen Marudhar reportedly affected Awarapan 2’s business to some extent.

With a strong opening and the holiday boost ahead, Awarapan 2 has emerged as a box-office hit on arrival, with its eventual run expected to determine how big a success it becomes.
