The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has banned the carrying of all types of arms and explosives, as well as meetings, rallies, processions and demonstrations in and around the Parliament complex to ensure the smooth conduct of the third session of the 13th Parliament.
The ban was announced in a public notification signed by DMP Commissioner Mosleh Uddin Ahmed on Tuesday (August 25).
The third session of the 13th Parliament is scheduled to begin on August 27. The restrictions have been imposed to maintain law and order in the Sher-e-Bangla Nagar area surrounding the Parliament building.
The ban will take effect from midnight on Wednesday (August 26) and remain in force until further notice. It covers the carrying of all types of arms, explosives and other harmful or polluting substances, as well as any kind of assembly, rally, procession or demonstration.
The restricted area includes the stretch from Mahakhali crossing on Mymensingh Road to the old airport and up to Banglamotor crossing; from the western end of Banglamotor Link Road to the Circle Fountain on Hotel Sonargaon Road; from the eastern end of Panthapath to Farmgate through the Green Road intersection; and from Shyamoli intersection on Mirpur Road to the Dhanmondi-16 Road intersection.
The restrictions also cover the area from the Rokeya Sarani intersection to the old 9th Division (Aircraft) crossing via Bijoy Sarani and Tourism Crossing, from the eastern end of Indira Road to the western end of Manik Mia Avenue, the Parliament complex’s reserved area, and all roads and alleys within these boundaries.
The order will remain in effect until the conclusion of the third session of the 13th Parliament.
