Trump admin asks US ambassador to Greece to resign

The White House has asked US Ambassador to Greece Kimberly Guilfoyle to resign following allegations of misconduct, amid President Donald Trump’s dissatisfaction with her conduct.

White House Press Secretary Katie Zacharia announced the decision on Tuesday, saying Guilfoyle had been a valuable member of the team and wishing her well.

The move came a day after Trump said he was considering removing Guilfoyle, adding that his administration was unhappy with the situation.

Guilfoyle has faced allegations that she sought $100,000 from a Trump supporter to pay a personal credit card bill before her Senate confirmation hearing, allegedly offering access to administration officials in return.

She has denied wrongdoing, and her lawyers have disputed the allegations.

Other reports have raised questions about her dealings with Greek business interests and her conduct during her diplomatic assignment.

The US State Department’s inspector general is reportedly reviewing the allegations.

Guilfoyle, a former television host and longtime Trump ally, was nominated for the diplomatic post in December 2024 and confirmed by the Senate in September 2025.
