KATHMANDU, Aug 27: Nepal Tourism Board has released the nationalities of some of the tourists and travellers reported missing following a devastating flash flood in the Bhote Koshi River in Rasuwa district, with no Bangladeshi nationals included in the list so far.
According to the Tourism Board’s latest update, a total of 384 tourists and travellers are currently reported missing or out of contact. Of them, 291 are foreign nationals and 93 are Nepali citizens.
The identified foreign nationals include 105 Indians, 37 non-resident Indians, three Americans, 17 Malaysians, 12 Britons, four South Africans, one Australian and one Dutch citizen.
The nationalities of several other foreign travellers are still being verified.
The flash flood struck the Bhote Koshi River area on Wednesday morning, causing widespread destruction in Rasuwa and leaving hundreds of people missing.
Rescue teams have been working to locate survivors and recover bodies amid severe damage to roads, bridges and other infrastructure.
The Tourism Board said it was continuously verifying the missing-persons list in coordination with tour operators, local authorities, tourist police and security agencies.
No Bangladeshi citizen has been identified among those listed as missing so far, although the authorities are still updating and verifying the information.
