High Court Division Justice Md Habibul Gani has been appointed as a judge of the Appellate Division of the Bangladesh Supreme Court.
The Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs issued a gazette notification on Thursday (August 27), appointing him under Article 95(1) of the Constitution, effective from the date of his oath.
Following his swearing-in, Justice Gani will join the judicial proceedings of the country’s highest court. His appointment will bring the number of judges in the Appellate Division to five.
Justice Habibul Gani has served in the High Court Division for many years. According to the Supreme Court’s 2017 annual report, he was born on May 31, 1962, and obtained MSS and LLB degrees from the University of Chittagong.
He was enrolled as an advocate with the district courts on April 3, 1989, and with the High Court Division on April 11, 1992.
After a long legal career, he was appointed an additional judge of the High Court Division on April 18, 2010, and made a permanent judge on April 15, 2012.
As a High Court judge, he has handled both civil and criminal cases, including criminal appeals, bail petitions, revisions and death references.
He has also participated in various international seminars, symposia and workshops on law and justice and visited several countries, including Canada, Japan, South Korea, China, India, Malaysia, Singapore, Nepal, Bhutan, the UAE and Saudi Arabia.
