US Ambassador to Bangladesh Brent T Christensen has highlighted the role of American engineering and technology in supporting Bangladesh’s railway connectivity during a visit to Bangladesh Railway’s Central Locomotive Workshop in Parbatipur.

During his visit, Christensen toured the workshop, where Bangladeshi technicians maintain American-made locomotives used for passenger and freight services across the country.

The ambassador also inspected a locomotive manufactured by US-based Progress Rail and met railway professionals responsible for maintaining the locomotives.

Christensen later travelled by train to Saidpur, where he spoke with passengers before visiting the historic Saidpur Railway Workshop and Museum.

The visit highlighted the long-standing contribution of US engineering and technology to Bangladesh’s railway infrastructure and the role of bilateral commercial cooperation in supporting the country’s development priorities.

Bangladesh Railway has purchased 40 locomotives from Progress Rail, demonstrating how US-made railway equipment and technology are being used to support passenger and freight transportation in Bangladesh.

The US Embassy said the visit underscored the practical and enduring value of expanding trade and commercial cooperation between Bangladesh and the United States.

It also showcased the role of Bangladesh’s railway professionals, whose technical expertise helps keep the American-made locomotives in service and supports connectivity across the country.
