The Bangladesh Deputy High Commission in Kolkata has advised Bangladeshi citizens travelling to the Indian city for medical treatment or other purposes to confirm their hotel bookings before leaving Bangladesh and verify the safety and current status of their accommodation.
The advisory, issued on Thursday (September 3), follows a major hotel fire in Kolkata on August 19 and subsequent measures taken by local authorities.
Bangladeshi patients and their accompanying family members have been urged to confirm room availability, booking validity, the hotel’s location and its distance from the hospital before travelling.
The mission also cautioned that several accident-prone hotels and restaurants have been temporarily closed by local authorities following the recent fire.
Some may take more than a month to reopen after complying with safety regulations.
In view of the situation, Bangladeshi travellers have been specifically advised not to travel to Kolkata without securing accommodation in advance.
