A new Bengali film titled Thandab is set to begin its journey in West Bengal, following the success of Raihan Rafi’s Dhallywood blockbuster of the same name in Bangladesh last year.
The Kolkata-based Thandab is being directed by Ayan Chakraborty, with Mimi Chakraborty in the lead role. Shooting officially began on September 17, with Mimi announcing the start on social media by sharing a picture of the film’s clapboard.
Details about the rest of the cast and crew, as well as the release date, have yet to be announced.
The film also brings together a new professional collaboration involving Mimi, filmmaker Raj Chakraborty and actor-producer Subhashree Ganguly. Raj and Subhashree are producing the project.
Mimi is returning to a film produced by Raj after nearly a decade. The two previously worked together on films including Bojhena Bojhena, Proloy and Yoddha, with their last collaboration being Katmundu in 2015.
The new project marks a professional reunion between Raj, Subhashree and Mimi after years of personal and professional distance following Raj and Subhashree’s marriage.
Subhashree welcomed the announcement on social media, commenting “Super happy!” on Mimi’s post about the beginning of the shoot.
Meanwhile, Raihan Rafi’s Bangladeshi Thandab, starring Shakib Khan, Sabila Nur and Jaya Ahsan, was released in June last year and became a major box-office success. Despite being affected by piracy, the film reportedly recorded strong business at multiplexes and emerged as one of the notable commercial successes of Dhallywood.
