The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has seized a large consignment of Indian goods worth around Tk5 million in separate operations along the Feni border.
The seizures were made in border areas of Fulgazi, Parshuram and Chhagalnaiya upazilas as part of regular BGB patrols and special drives against drug trafficking and smuggling, according to a press release issued by Feni Battalion on Saturday.
The seized items included Indian-brand sarees, three-piece outfits, spectacles, life-saving medicines and illegally transported timber.
The BGB said the seized goods are being handed over to local customs authorities for legal action, while the confiscated timber will be transferred to the Forest Department.
Feni Battalion Commander Lt Col MM Zillur Rahman said BGB personnel remain highly alert to prevent drug trafficking, smuggling and illegal border crossings and to ensure overall border security.
He said such operations would continue to be intensified to curb cross-border crimes and protect the country’s economy.
