The Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) has called for accurate and timely information on affected areas in Nepal as the country works to restore its tourism industry following the recent crisis.
In an open letter to the travel and tourism community, PATA Chairman Henry Oh and PATA Foundation Chairman Andrew Jones said clear information about the situation on the ground would be essential to rebuilding traveller confidence.
“As the situation continues to develop, it is important that we provide travellers and tourism stakeholders with an accurate picture of what has been affected – and what has not,” they said.
The PATA leaders stressed that distinguishing between affected and unaffected destinations would help prevent unnecessary disruption to tourism and allow travellers to make informed decisions about visiting Nepal.
They urged tourism stakeholders and others involved in destination communication to share verified updates, saying responsible and accurate reporting would play an important role in Nepal’s tourism recovery.
Nepal’s tourism sector is a major source of employment and foreign exchange, making the restoration of visitor confidence particularly important as the country seeks to revive travel activity.
