Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan has said Türkiye is ready to help meet Saudi Arabia’s military needs under the recently signed Mecca Joint Defence Agreement, as Houthi attacks on the kingdom intensify.
Fidan said Saudi Arabia was facing “very serious attacks” on its territorial integrity and sovereignty and that Türkiye stood in solidarity with Riyadh under the trilateral defence pact involving Türkiye, Saudi Arabia and Pakistan.
He said Riyadh might require military assistance, particularly in technical areas, and Türkiye would have no difficulty providing such support.
Ankara also plans to raise Saudi Arabia’s military needs with Pakistan, according to reports.
The Mecca Joint Defence Agreement, signed in August, stipulates that an armed attack against any one of the three signatories will be regarded as an attack against all three.
The Turkish offer comes amid escalating attacks by Yemen’s Houthi forces against Saudi territory, including reported strikes involving missiles and drones.
The attacks have raised concerns over Saudi security, energy infrastructure and regional trade routes.
Fidan also said Türkiye had presented proposals aimed at ending the wider conflict and stressed that Saudi Arabia should not be drawn into the broader US-Iran confrontation.
He called for the parties to accept initiatives aimed at ending the fighting.
The Mecca pact is designed as a defence-oriented alliance, with cooperation expected to cover intelligence, logistics, joint training, interoperability and defence-industry cooperation.
