The popular Bangladesh-India joint-production film Hothat Brishti, which became a major hit in the 1990s, is returning to the big screen in a new form nearly three decades after its release.
Directed by Basu Chatterjee and starring Ferdous and Indian actress Priyanka Trivedi, Hothat Brishti first premiered on Channel i during Eid-ul-Azha in 1998 and went on to win widespread popularity with its romantic storyline.
The remake, titled Abaar Hothat Brishti, has been directed by Kamruzzaman and features a new generation of actors. The film has received in-principle approval from the new certification board and is scheduled for a nationwide theatrical release on October 2.
Arian Sarwar will play the role portrayed by Ferdous in the original, while newcomer Radifa Narmin will take on Priyanka Trivedi’s role.
Director Kamruzzaman said remaking a widely remembered film was a major creative challenge. He said the new version was made keeping contemporary audiences and younger viewers in mind, while retaining the essence of the original story.
The director expressed hope that the new pairing and chemistry would connect with audiences, adding that viewers would make their own assessment after watching the film.
The film also features several experienced and emerging Bangladeshi actors, including Azad Abul Kalam, Farzana Chhobi, Cristano Tanmoy, Kayes Arju, Mou Khan and Jhuna Chowdhury.
The original Hothat Brishti was jointly produced by Bangladesh’s Ashirbad Chalachchitra and India’s Gramco Films. For the new remake, Ashirbad Chalachchitra has partnered with Impress Telefilm.
