The government has approved the import of two additional cargoes of liquefied natural gas (LNG) from Qatar to meet the country’s growing energy demand.

The Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase (CCGP) approved a proposal to purchase the LNG from QatarEnergy Trading LLC under a long-term government-to-government (G2G) agreement.

The proposal was approved at the CCGP’s 46th meeting of the year on Wednesday (September 23).

According to the approval, the two additional LNG cargoes will be supplied on November 6 and 22, 2026.

The price has been set at $0.02 per million British thermal units (MMBtu) below the Japan-Korea Marker (JKM) price, which differs from the price stipulated in the existing long-term agreement.

The Energy and Mineral Resources Division recommended QatarEnergy Trading LLC as the supplier of the additional cargoes.

The government is importing the extra LNG as part of its ongoing efforts to meet rising energy demand and ensure an uninterrupted supply of gas in the country.
