The Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase (CCGP) on Wednesday approved the procurement of four liquefied natural gas (LNG) cargoes at prices ranging from $23.98 to $28.03 per million British thermal units (MMBtu).
Of the four cargoes, three will be procured through international tenders, while another will be purchased from Aramco Trading Singapore under a government-to-government arrangement.
Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury chaired the meeting at the Bangladesh Secretariat.
The 49th LNG cargo, scheduled for delivery on September 25-26, will be bought from Aramco Trading Singapore at $27.54 per MMBtu. The 50th cargo, due on October 1-2, will come from BP Singapore at $28.03, while Vitol Asia will supply the 51st cargo on October 5-6 at $26.6688 per MMBtu.
The additional cargo, scheduled for delivery on September 10, will be purchased from Aramco Trading Singapore at $23.98 per MMBtu under the existing LNG sale and purchase agreement with Petrobangla.
The purchases come as Bangladesh relies increasingly on imported LNG to meet gas shortages and supply power plants, industries and other consumers.
