Prime Minister Tarique Rahman held a meeting with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian on Wednesday on the sidelines of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
The meeting took place on September 23, according to information from the Iranian president’s office and reports by Bangladeshi media.
Pezeshkian, who arrived in New York to attend the UN General Assembly, held several bilateral meetings on his first day in the city, including talks with the Bangladesh prime minister.
The two leaders discussed issues of mutual interest as well as regional and international matters, according to the Iranian president’s office.
Details of the discussions were not immediately disclosed.
The meeting came amid heightened tensions involving Iran and the United States. Pezeshkian is in New York for the UN session, while Iran has said its delegation is prepared to pursue diplomatic discussions through mediators.
Tarique Rahman is scheduled to address the UN General Assembly on Thursday.
