The Coast Guard has seized 4,815 kg of banned polythene worth around Tk7.22 million in Showari Ghat area of Dhaka.
Coast Guard media officer Lt Commander Sabbir Alam Sujon disclosed the information on Thursday (September 24).
He said Coast Guard Station Pagla conducted a special operation at around 12:30am on Thursday based on a tip-off in the Showari Ghat area along the Buriganga River under Chawkbazar police station.
During the operation, the Coast Guard searched a warehouse and recovered 4,815 kg of banned polythene worth Tk7.22 million.
No one was arrested as the actual owner of the seized polythene could not be identified at the time of the operation.
Lt Commander Sabbir said the seized polythene was handed over to the Department of Environment in Narayanganj for further legal action.
The Coast Guard will continue such operations to protect the environment, he added.
