Coast Guard detains 37 fishermen in Banshkhali

 The Bangladesh Coast Guard detained 37 fishermen and seized two artisanal trawlers during a pre-dawn operation in Banshkhali today, citing alleged illegal fishing activities.

Acting on a tip-off, a Coast Guard team carried out the operation near Sheikherkhil Fish Ghat under Banshkhali Police Station at around 1:00am.

During the operation, personnel searched the vessels and seized 14 trawling nets before taking the fishermen into custody, according to an official statement.

Legal proceedings against the detained fishermen, as well as the seized trawlers and nets, are currently underway, the statement added.

The Bangladesh Coast Guard said such operation will continue as part of efforts to protect the country’s marine and fisheries resources.
