Bangladesh is set to purchase 11 additional Boeing aircraft for national flag carrier Biman Bangladesh Airlines, with US President Donald Trump welcoming the deal.
The agreement, announced on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York on Wednesday, includes five Boeing 787-10 Dreamliners and six 737-8 MAX aircraft, according to Boeing.
The new purchase brings Biman’s total planned Boeing acquisitions to 25 aircraft.
In April, the airline signed an agreement to buy 14 Boeing aircraft, comprising eight 787-10s, two 787-9s and four 737-8 MAX jets.
The earlier order was valued at about $3.7 billion, with deliveries scheduled in phases between 2031 and 2035.
Details of the price, financing terms and delivery schedule for the additional 11 aircraft have not yet been publicly disclosed.
Trump has previously urged Bangladesh to purchase Boeing aircraft. Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister M Rashiduzzaman Millat said earlier this month that Bangladesh was buying Boeing aircraft in response to Trump’s request, while also indicating that Biman would consider aircraft from Airbus and other manufacturers.
The latest deal is part of Biman’s fleet modernisation and expansion plans, as the airline seeks to strengthen its international operations and renew its ageing fleet.
