Three people were killed and at least six others injured when two buses collided on the Dhaka-Bhanga Expressway in Shibchar upazila of Madaripur on Friday afternoon.
The accident occurred around 3:30pm in the Pachchar area of the expressway, police said.
According to police and local sources, a Palki Paribahan bus travelling from Khulna to Dhaka had stopped near Bakherkandi, close to Pachchar, after developing a mechanical problem.
A Dhaka-bound Hanif Paribahan bus subsequently crashed into the stationary bus from behind, leaving three passengers dead at the scene and at least six others injured.
The identities of the deceased had not yet been confirmed, police said.
Shibchar Highway Police Station Sub-Inspector Muntasir Rahman said police reached the scene after receiving information, recovered the bodies and sent the injured to a nearby hospital.
“Efforts are underway to identify the deceased,” he said.
