More than 50 people were detained from the central office of the Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (Jasad) in Gulistan on suspicion of having links to the activities of the banned Awami League, police said.

The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) detained them from the Jasad office near the GPO intersection in Gulistan around 2:30pm on Saturday (September 26).

DMP Deputy Commissioner (Media) and spokesperson Md Akter Hossain confirmed the matter.

He said more than 50 people were detained from the area on suspicion of involvement in activities linked to the banned Awami League, and that their identities were being verified.

The detainees were taken into custody during a police operation at the Jasad central office, according to the DMP official.

Akter Hossain said the verification process would determine whether any of those detained were involved in activities prohibited under the existing restrictions on the Awami League.

He did not immediately provide further details about the identities of the detainees or say whether any specific case had been filed against them.

Police officials said further action would be taken based on the outcome of the identity verification and any evidence found against those detained.

The detention comes amid heightened law-enforcement vigilance over activities allegedly linked to the banned Awami League. However, police have not yet disclosed whether all those detained were members or supporters of the party or whether any of them had been formally accused in a specific case.
