Twenty-four of the 27 people arrested from the central office of the Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JASAD) in Gulistan, Dhaka, have been released on bail.

They were released from Dhaka Central Jail on Thursday evening after securing bail from the Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge Court, according to a JASAD press release.

The remaining three have yet to be released. One person remained in custody despite obtaining bail because of a spelling discrepancy in his father’s name, the party said. He is reportedly the father of an employee at a shop beneath the party’s central office. Bail hearings for the other two leaders are scheduled for October 11.

On September 26, police detained 289 people during JASAD’s central representatives’ meeting at the party’s Gulistan office. Police subsequently showed 27 of them as arrested.

The police alleged that the accused chanted “Joy Bangla” inside the office, intimidated others and created an unstable and disorderly situation.

JASAD, however, said it had organised the meeting with permission from the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), with around 400 party leaders and activists attending from across the country.

The party also claimed that BNP activists attacked the gathering at one point, after which police cordoned off the office and detained attendees. Many were released later that night following verification.
