The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has officially launched a new domestic tournament titled the ‘D Three Trophy’, bringing three separate competitions under a single framework.

The tournament will feature the Bangladesh Cricket League’s (BCL) four-day and 50-over competitions, along with the National Cricket League’s (NCL) T20 tournament.

The initiative is aimed at restructuring domestic cricket and increasing its commercial appeal and competitiveness.

Six franchises have been awarded team ownership rights for the tournament for an initial three-year period.

The participating companies include H. Bluestar, Walton Group, Citizen Bank, ACME Group, Seven Rings Cement and Fortune Group.

The T20 leg of the D Three Trophy is scheduled to begin in December, with the opening phase set to be held in Barishal.

The four-day and 50-over competitions will follow in January and May respectively.

Each franchise will be allowed to draft up to 23 players across the three formats. Teams will also select coaching staff, analysts, physiotherapists and trainers through the draft process.

The BCB also plans to oversee players’ payments. Franchise fees for players will be collected in advance and distributed according to a grading system, with the board also maintaining control over tournament-related expenditure.

BCB President Tamim Iqbal said the initiative was designed to restore greater interest and colour to the country’s domestic cricket.
