All-rounder Mohammad Saifuddin has been ruled out of Bangladesh’s Asian Games squad with a hamstring injury, with spinner Aliss Al Islam named as his replacement.
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) confirmed the change in a statement on Wednesday.
Aliss impressed with his bowling while playing for Bangladesh A in South Africa, earning his place in the national squad. Although he had previously received a national team call-up, he is yet to make his international debut.
Saifuddin picked up the hamstring injury while playing a four-day match for Bangladesh A against South Africa. The injury worsened after he returned home and resumed training ahead of the Asian Games.
An MRI scan later confirmed the extent of the injury, which is expected to keep him out of action for around three weeks.
The BCB informed the Bangladesh Olympic Association (BOA) about Saifuddin’s injury and requested permission to replace him in the Asian Games squad. Following approval, Aliss was included in the team.
