The Cabinet has approved a proposal to relocate the Bangladesh Secretariat from Abdul Gani Road to the old trade fair ground in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar, Dhaka, with operations at the new complex expected to begin in 2029.
The decision was taken at a Cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on Sunday. Cabinet Secretary Nasimul Gani announced the decision at a press briefing after the meeting.
The proposed complex will be built on around 31.5 acres of land and will comprise 14 12-storey buildings, with a total floor area of approximately 3.2 million square feet.
Plans also include basement facilities and parking for around 3,800 vehicles.
The relocation aims to establish a new administrative hub for government ministries and divisions, replacing the existing Secretariat complex.
