Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is scheduled to visit Durga Puja mandaps in Rangpur, Rajshahi and Chattogram on Tuesday as part of the Hindu community’s largest religious festival outside Dhaka.

The information was confirmed by the prime minister’s Additional Press Secretary, Atikur Rahman Rumon.

“The prime minister is visiting puja mandaps in three districts. He will first go to Rangpur in the morning, followed by Rajshahi and Chattogram,” Rumon said.

He said this would be the first time a head of government in Bangladesh visits Durga Puja mandaps outside Dhaka to observe the Hindu community’s largest religious festival, Sharadiya Durga Puja.

During the visits, the prime minister will extend greetings to devotees and exchange pleasantries with them, Rumon added.

He also said the prime minister would return to Dhaka on Tuesday night after visiting the puja mandaps in Chattogram.

Tarique Rahman will leave Tejgaon Airport aboard a military aircraft at 9am on Tuesday for the three districts.

Earlier on Sunday night, the prime minister visited Durga Puja mandaps in the capital’s Mohakhali and Banani areas. His wife, Zubaida Rahman, accompanied him.

Tuesday marks Maha Navami, the ninth day of Durga Puja. The festivities will conclude on Wednesday with Bijoya Dashami, when the idols are immersed in water.
