Imran Khan served second notice to leave India

Indian authorities have issued a second notice to Bollywood actor Imran Khan, asking him to explain why his Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) status should not be revoked following his alleged participation in a political protest in Mumbai.

The Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) had earlier issued a notice directing the actor, a US citizen, to leave India by October 28 over alleged violations of immigration laws.

The action followed a protest held at Mumbai’s August Kranti Maidan on October 10, where demonstrators demanded the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over alleged irregularities in voter-list revisions.

Imran Khan has challenged the initial notice in the Bombay High Court, describing it as arbitrary and unlawful.

His petition argues that there is no legal provision expressly prohibiting OCI cardholders from participating in peaceful protests.

The Bombay High Court is scheduled to hear his petition on October 26, two days before the deadline set in the notice.

The actor, who is the nephew of Bollywood star Aamir Khan, has sought the cancellation of the notice and protection against coercive action by the authorities.
