The government has issued the Special Solar Power Installation Ordinance, 2026, to accelerate the installation and use of rooftop solar power across the country.
The ordinance was issued on Monday night by the Legislative and Parliamentary Affairs Division of the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs.
It aims to introduce special provisions for the installation and expansion of solar power facilities and related matters.
The gazette notification said special provisions were necessary to ensure the rapid expansion of solar power installation activities.
It added that Parliament was not in session and that the president was satisfied that circumstances existed requiring immediate action. Accordingly, the president promulgated the ordinance under Article 93(1) of the Constitution.
Earlier, on Sunday, the Cabinet gave in-principle and final approval to the draft ordinance.
The approval came as the government aims to install 3,000 to 4,000 megawatts of rooftop solar power capacity before the next summer.
