Iran is preparing to unveil a new weapon dubbed the “father of all bombs”, a spokesman for the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has said, amid rising military tensions with the United States.

IRGC spokesman Hossein Mohebi made the announcement on Wednesday, saying Tehran was preparing to introduce a new weapon that would present a new challenge to its adversaries.

However, he did not disclose the weapon’s technical specifications or provide a timeline for its unveiling.

The announcement comes amid reports that the US military is considering using its GBU-43/B Massive Ordnance Air Blast (MOAB), widely known as the “mother of all bombs”, in potential strikes against Iranian nuclear facilities and energy infrastructure.

The United States has not confirmed any decision to deploy the weapon.

The GPS-guided MOAB weighs approximately 9,800 kilogrammes and is among the largest conventional non-nuclear bombs in the US arsenal. It was first used in combat in Afghanistan in April 2017.

Mohebi also claimed that Iran’s missile stockpile had increased by 50 per cent since its 12-day conflict with Israel in June 2025.

He said the country had improved its missiles’ range, destructive power and accuracy.

The claims could not be independently verified.

The planned unveiling comes against the backdrop of escalating tensions between Tehran and Washington over military operations and security in the strategically important Strait of Hormuz.
