DHAKA: Three senior BNP leaders and ministers in the government—Dr Abdul Moyeen Khan, Abdul Awal Mintoo and Mizanur Rahman Minu—were hospitalised after suddenly falling ill.

Of the three, Forest and Environment Minister Abdul Awal Mintoo returned home on Thursday afternoon (October 22) after his condition improved slightly. The other two ministers remain under medical treatment in hospitals.

BNP Acting Secretary General and Prime Minister’s Adviser Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, along with the party’s Standing Committee member and Social Welfare Minister Dr AZM Zahid Hossain, visited Local Government Minister Dr Abdul Moyeen Khan and Land Minister Mizanur Rahman Minu in hospital to enquire about their health.

BNP Media Cell member Shairul Kabir Khan and the personal staff of the ministers confirmed the information. Their families, the party and the government have sought prayers from the public for the ministers’ speedy recovery.

Dr Abdul Moyeen Khan, a BNP Standing Committee member and Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives, suddenly experienced chest pain on Wednesday night. He was subsequently taken to Evercare Hospital in the capital and admitted to the coronary care unit (CCU).

On Thursday, Social Welfare Minister Dr AZM Zahid Hossain visited him at the hospital and enquired about his condition from the doctors treating him. His family has asked the public to pray for his speedy recovery.

Meanwhile, Land Minister Mizanur Rahman Minu, an adviser to the BNP chairman, suddenly fell ill on Wednesday (October 21) and was admitted to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital. He received several bags of blood due to anaemia. He was later transferred from Rajshahi to Bangladesh Medical University (BMU) in the capital on Thursday morning for advanced treatment.

Ruhul Kabir Rizvi visited the hospital on Thursday to enquire about the land minister’s health.

The minister’s Assistant Private Secretary (APS), Nazmul Haque Diken, said Minu had been transferred to BMU for better treatment. A medical board has been formed to oversee his treatment under the supervision of specialist doctors. He has undergone several medical tests, while his condition is showing signs of improvement, Diken said.

The minister has also sought prayers from the public for his speedy recovery.

On the other hand, Forest and Environment Minister Abdul Awal Mintoo, a BNP vice-chairman, was admitted to Continental Hospital in the capital on Wednesday night after suddenly feeling unwell. He returned home on Thursday afternoon after his condition improved slightly.

In a post on his verified Facebook page, Mintoo thanked everyone for their concern and said he had gone to the hospital after feeling unwell. However, he said his condition was not particularly serious and that he was now feeling better and recovering.

The families of all three ministers, along with their party and the government, have called on the public to pray for their speedy recovery.
