Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami has condemned the shooting targeting the personal car of popular singer and former Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) director Asif Akbar in Dhaka’s Moghbazar early Saturday.

In a statement issued on Saturday (October 24), the party’s Assistant Secretary-General and Secretary of its Central Publicity and Media Department, Advocate Ehsanul Mahbub Zubayer, described the incident as alarming and reprehensible.

He said firing at the vehicle of a prominent musician was unacceptable and that such acts of violence posed a threat to public safety, law and order, and people’s normal lives.

Zubayer urged law enforcement agencies to take more effective measures to prevent such crimes, stressing that ensuring the safety of every citizen’s life and property was the state’s responsibility.

He also called for the swift identification and arrest of those involved, a fair investigation to uncover the motive behind the shooting, and exemplary punishment for the perpetrators.
