The Saudi-led coalition in Yemen said on Sunday that it intercepted and destroyed 10 ballistic missiles launched by the Houthi group from Yemen toward Saudi Arabia’s southern region.
Coalition spokesman Turki al-Maliki said on X that the missiles were shot down, without giving any details about injuries or damage.
His announcement came after he said earlier in the day that the coalition intercepted and destroyed a Houthi cruise missile that targeted the southwestern Saudi city of Khamis Mushait.
Maliki also said that coalition forces had intercepted and destroyed a ballistic missile and two drones launched by the Houthis toward Riyadh.
The developments came amid escalating hostilities involving attacks on Saudi aviation and energy infrastructure and coalition strikes on Houthi positions in Yemen.
Meanwhile, King Khalid International Airport in the Saudi capital Riyadh announced on Saturday that domestic flights and international services operated by national airlines would use designated terminals starting Sunday.
In a notice to passengers, the airport said Terminal 1 would handle domestic flights, while Terminal 2 would serve international flights operated by national carriers, effective October 25.
Passengers with confirmed bookings were advised to contact their airlines to verify their flight and reservation status before traveling to the airport.
King Khalid International Airport is among several Saudi airports targeted in recent attacks claimed by Yemen’s Houthi group, some of which have caused civilian casualties and disrupted air travel.
Yemen’s Houthis renewed their warning to airlines, airport staff and travellers against using Riyadh’s King Khalid International Airport, with the group’s spokesman saying early on Sunday it was unsafe and remained a “military target.”
Houthis claim to have struck Saudi airports, oil facilities with missiles, drones
Yemen’s Houthi group claimed on Saturday that it carried out seven military operations using ballistic missiles and drones against airports, oil facilities and an air base across Saudi Arabia in retaliation for Saudi airstrikes on Yemen.
In a statement, the group said it targeted King Khalid International Airport in the capital Riyadh.
It also claimed attacks on Saudi oil giant Aramco’s facilities in Yanbu and the Rabigh oil refinery, both on the kingdom’s western Red Sea coast.
Another operation targeted crude oil pumping stations and the East-West oil pipeline, which transports oil from eastern Saudi Arabia to the Red Sea coast, according to the statement.
The Houthis also claimed to have struck King Fahd International Airport in Dammam, eastern Saudi Arabia, saying the attack was “precise” and disrupted air traffic.
Other operations targeted Najran airport in southern Saudi Arabia, near the Yemeni border, and the Khamis Mushait air base in the southwest, with the group claiming direct hits.
The Houthis said the attacks were in response to Saudi airstrikes on Yemen, alleging that 100 strikes over the last 24 hours had hit civilian sites in the capital Sanaa and other areas under their control, killing and injuring dozens. Source: Express Tribune.
