Prof Shamima Sultana appointed PSC member

Professor Dr Shamima Sultana of the Bangla Department at Jahangirnagar University has been appointed a member of the Bangladesh Public Service Commission (BPSC).

The Ministry of Public Administration issued a notification on Sunday, October 25, confirming her appointment under Article 138(1) of the Constitution, according to media reports.

Under Article 139(1) of the Constitution, she will serve as a PSC member for five years from the date she assumes office or until she reaches the age of 65, whichever comes first.

Reacting to the appointment, Professor Sultana expressed gratitude to the authorities for placing their trust in her.

She said she would strive to carry out her responsibilities with honesty and dedication while maintaining transparency and impartiality in the commission’s activities.

Professor Sultana drew attention during the July 2024 student movement when she removed a portrait of then Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina from her departmental office at Jahangirnagar University. She had previously served as a member of the university’s Senate.
