DHAKA: Today, Monday (October 26), is the last day for submitting nomination papers for the by-election to the reserved women’s parliamentary seat vacated by former BNP lawmaker Ferdousi Ahmed Misty, according to Election Commission (EC) sources.
According to the announced election schedule, nomination papers must be submitted to the returning officer today. The nomination papers will be scrutinised on October 27. Appeals against the scrutiny decisions can be filed on October 28, with the appeals to be resolved on October 29.
The deadline for withdrawing candidacies is November 1, while electoral symbols will be allocated on November 2. Voting for the seat is scheduled to take place on November 12.
Ferdousi Ahmed Misty recently came under controversy over allegations linked to an incident involving an attack, vandalism and looting at the Radda MCH-FP Centre in Mirpur, Dhaka. Amid the controversy, she resigned following instructions from BNP Chairman and Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.
Following her resignation, the Parliament Secretariat declared the seat vacant, prompting the Election Commission to announce the by-election schedule.
